Vacancy management

Guidelines on vacancy in the Görlitz district developed –

The result of our collaborative project between the Structural Change Task Force and the Institute for New Industrial Culture (INIK) in Cottbus is a new guide on the topic of "Vacancy." It is aimed particularly at owners of former industrial brownfield sites and vacant buildings. One outcome of the project is that vacancy in Lusatia, especially in the Görlitz district, is a key issue in the structural transformation. The topic is complex and intertwines questions of ownership, use, development, coordination, and regional perspective. Following intensive analysis, a guide is now available to help make vacant properties, such as former industrial buildings, residential buildings, and open spaces, usable again. The goal of the research conducted during the six-month project was not only to describe existing properties but also to refine the technical and structural foundations for a more strategic approach.
