Position paper of northern municipalities

The position paper of the northern municipalities of the Görlitz district, outlining concrete demands for the implementation of structural change, was developed jointly with the Structural Change Task Force. It was presented in June at the 9th regional advisory committee meeting and subsequently to the public.

In their 24-page strategy paper, the mayor and her 11 counterparts from the northern municipalities are calling for the targeted use of funds from the Coal Region Investment Act and have made very clear demands of policymakers. These include infrastructure measures, such as a high-capacity connection between the A4 and A15 motorways, and the preservation of the energy production site. Investments in education and skilled workers are also on the agenda, as is sensible economic development with expanded and future-proof commercial and industrial zones. For this purpose, the northern municipalities are requesting more than €520 million from the "coal funds.".

The Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia Development Corporation (Entwicklungsgesellschaft Niederschlesische Oberlausitz mbH) has been advising municipalities in our district for many years. Through numerous discussions, consultations, and joint projects, we maintain close and effective communication with decision-makers. Working on the position paper was also an exciting experience for us, and we are pleased with the positive outcome.
